Cover fx mattifying primer- Review

The cover fx mattifying primer aims to minimizes the appearance of pores and treats blemishes as well as help control shine, all in a matte finish, as you can tell by the name.

I never really use to use primers as part of my makeup routine, I guess I hadn’t seen the importance of them until one day I decided to change my regime up a bit.

The change came after realizing foundations on me wouldn’t last near as enough as it would on my friends and I almost always looked like a shiny ball as the day went.

Continue reading as I go through my favourite aspects of this primer and if there is anything which I didn’t find really appealing.

Quick overview:

Pros

  • Weightless
  •  Beneficial ingredients
  • Does help foundation last long
  • Good for sensitive or acne prone skin

Cons

  • Less formula in packaging

Ingredients

I’ll start with the formula!Cover fx mattifying primer

I’m a fan of their ingredients not only because it’s vegan, it’s formulated without any nasty chemicals. Cover fx state this primer is free from phthalates, parabens, sulfate, talc, mineral oil and fragrance.

The key ingredients are said to be salicylic acid which helps sooth acne, fruit extracts such as lemon and orange for helping the skin stay smooth and exfoliating as well as encouraging natural cell renewal and finally ancient African tree bark which reduces the appearance of pores and controls shine, I definitely need some of that!

I feel like knowing what’s inside the product you just bought, especially if it’s going on your face is super important. Even more so if you have sensitive skin which I definitely have!

It’s great, cover fx clearly display what their primer contains.

How does it feel on the skin?

I can tell you that this primer is actually weightless like cover fx state. It is a gel consistency and feels nice to rub in, not slimy.

It doesn’t feel tight on my skin like I’m wearing a mask or heavy which I feel like can be an issue especially when you start adding concealer and foundation on.

Acne treatment

This primer is recommended for acne prone skin as well as other skin types. It’s formulated with 1% salicylic acid which is often used to treat skin conditions such as acne.

I don’t personally suffer from acne however I do have a few spots and redness on my forehead that appear from time to time, out of the blue.

At the time of using this I was going through the irritated skin phase and usually no matter what skin product I try, it either gets worse or stays the same.

However, with this primer I did notice a subtle difference. The redness on my skin calmed down even after applying foundation with a brush, which would have normally aggravated it.

I can’t speak for how effective it is on acne skin but I do believe it probably would make some sort of difference, after all it is called cover fx mattifying primer anti acne!

Collection of primers?

The mattifying primer isn’t the only primer cover fx produce. They have a collection. There is:

# Gripping primer for gripping makeup for an all day wear.

# Blurring primer helps blur the appearance of pores and fine lines.

# Water cloud primer is suitable for all skin types and is created to defend the skin against pollution and blue light as well as refresh the complexion.

# Dewy skin primer is for those who are looking to hydrate their skins, for around 24 hours

I am yet to try these. I don’t think I need to or am going to try all of them but I might give water cloud primer a try mainly because it’s something I haven’t come across before so I would love to see if the protection against pollution would actually make a difference to my skin.

Overall performance

I think it does a great job in keeping my foundation hanged on. Usually a foundation would last around 5 hours before my combination skin decides it’s time to shine, however with the primer on I notice a big difference, my makeup stays well over 6 hours depending on the conditions.

It doesn’t leave my skin aggravated or anything like that too! So I can say it definitely works for me!

However what I didn’t like about this product is I’ve noticed the amount of gel only fills in around half the packaging, it would be better if there was more product packed in, I run out of it quite quick. I mean I’m not sure if that’s me using too much or what.

Despite this, I think I would purchase this again. It is at the moment my go to primer because it controls my shine and at the same time doesn’t dry my skin.

So a win for me! It does what a primer should whilst being vegan and cruetly free.

Thanks for your helpful review of Coverfx Mattifying Primer. I have used a couple of their primers and find that the mattifying version does a good job with my normal/oily skin. I confess that primer is a step that I might sometimes skip, but I know that if I do that I won’t get the same results from my makeup. It really is a helpful product and results should be noticeable right away!

      Hey Amy,

      Thanks for stopping by!

Primers are actually useful aren’t they? Mattifying primers or foundations are great for oily skin as they keep them under control. They are also moisturizing but not overly, being careful not to encourage excess oil production.
