Is The Hourglass Lip Liner Worth It?

The hourglass lip liner or to be more precise, the hourglass shape and sculpt lip liner landed into my collection for no particular reason. I guess I just felt the itch to spend but was it a total waste or should we call it an acceptable splash out. Read on to find out!

Let’s get started!

Description

Hourglass lip linerHourglass describe their shape and sculpture liner as having an ‘ultra creamy, transfer resistant’ formula which allows you to not only define and shape but sculpt too! It leaves its owners with a soft matte colour that is meant to stay all day! This lip liner has the ability to produce full coverage without the nuisance of smudging, feathering or fading! Now that sounds interesting!

It is also infused with jojoba oil which gives this hourglass lip liner a nourishing touch along with high pigmentation so you can receive satisfactory results with one swipe! The creamy texture means you can glide the liner across your lips effortlessly without the need to tug or skip.

Shades

The hourglass lip and sculpt lip liner consists of 7 different shades. They offer berry shades as well as a few beige! The shades precisely are:

  • Expose – a warm beige
  • Flaunt – warm pinky beige
  • Tempt – mid tone pink beige
  • Uncover – described as a warm terracotta
  • Candid – which is a true chestnut
  • Silhouette – deep red
  • And last but not least … incite – a classic red or as the brand state a true red!

The lightest shade is ‘Expose’ which I think is great for a natural look, it is a nude hue. Whereas on the other side you have the classic red, ‘incite’ ideal for those who prefer to add more drama or for a night out! It is quite rich in tone. I’d say most of the shades are based on a neutral tone with brown being the main focus.

Application / Performance

When you hear the words ‘ultra creamy’ and ‘infused with nourishing jojoba oil’ you automatically assume this liner is going to glide along effortlessly just like the brand state, with no issues. So were we right to make this assumption?

Well yes of course by the reason the formula being certainly a beautiful creamy consistency.

It does glide along nicely without any skipping or tugging problems like hourglass had mentioned. To ensure I received the shape and sculpt lip liners full potential, I prepped well beforehand, including a lib scrub along with moisturising.

So the liner was easy to apply now how about performance? I’ll start off discussing the pigment. Since the brand do state this is a full coverage, pigment was of course going to pack a punch and that it certainly did! The pigment for this liner is quite rich I would say, one lining provided me with great results.

The soft and smooth texture makes it easy for me to coat all my lips.

The tip offers good precision too whilst it lasts, it does seem to get blunt quite quickly most likely due to the buttery formula.

Lastage

Hourglass state the shape and sculpt lip liner is a ‘long wearing’ product which provides ‘color that stays all day’. Plus the formula is said to be smudge, feather as well as fade resistant. Oh transfer resistant too! I mean all this surely means this liner should be a stubborn one. For further evidence according to the brand 84% of its users claimed it did not bleed nor feather.

So what was the outcome for me? Well I can say I am overall proud with the lastage. It did provide around 7 hours of strong performance before I had to touch up the corners but other than that everything else seemed like it was in place.

The corners had just faded a little so I had to reline. There weren’t no issues with transferring or feathering in that time frame. I decided to wear the lipliner for 9 hours till it was removal time. Towards the end though I did notice more fading but despite that I am happy with the lastage!

Overall

Overall I give the hourglass lip liner a rating of 8.5/10! I really like how easy it is to apply as well as the smooth texture, requiring no need to drag. The shade range is good too however it would be awesome if there was more variety such as the classic red, peach, more deeper shades etc. The lastage is good too for most the part except some fading but nothing major and the pigment is just right!

I would agree that this lip liner can define, shape as well as sculpt lips which is it’s main purpose. So if anyone is looking for a lip liner that glides along effortlessly, is long lasting with minimum issues then I recommend the hourglass lip liner.

Have a great day!
