The ilia lip oil or to be more precise the ilia balmy gloss tinted lip oil came to my attention after my current lip balm had ran out. Therefore I wanted to purchase something with a similar effect but with extra benefits, and that happened to be ilia’s lip oil. It is a lip oil with some tint and hydrating properties.
Right let’s get started…
Description
The balmy gloss tinted lip oil by ilia is described as a ‘cushiony, tinted lip oil’ which features plumping hyaluronic acid along with other moisturising producing ingredients. The ilia tinted lip oil ultimately ensures your lips are left not only soft but smooth too without the annoying sticky feel!
This lip gloss is ideal for drenching your lips in moisture and then ‘cushioning them in comfort’! This is possible due to the addition of active levels of hyaluronic acid along with the blend of ‘powerful botanicals’.
These botanicals help deliver deep hydration upon each application according to the brand. A coat of the balmy gloss provides your pout with instant soft, smooth as well as a fuller feel, finished in a ‘natural, glossy sheen’. It can be blended to a wash of colour, worn alone or paired with the ilia colour block lipstick which the brand recommend.
Shades
The balmy gloss tinted lip oil is available in 6 shades, mostly in berry shades with one nude hue. The shades I think are a great choice for any day or natural look though they are quite sheer so just about visible especially after you have worn it for some time.
The shades are; ‘only you’, a neutral nude and most likely their lightest shade, ‘petals’ a tropical pink, ‘tahiti’ described as a burnt coral, ‘maybe violet’ that is a soft lavender, ‘linger’ which is a berry tinted mauve and last but not least ‘saint’, a rustic orange. I really like the names of these tints, they give off summer vibes!
Now with all these awesome tints which one would I go for? Picking and sticking to one shade was quite tricky and took some time for me to settle on a particular one to be honest. I know some of them are quite similar in hue however the slight variation still made decision making a little of a hassle. Anyways fast forward some time, and I finally went for the shade ‘linger’, which is a berry mauve.
Reasoning being, I wanted something not too rich but at the same time held some colour to it so I guess the berry mauve ticked the in between box and off it came!
Application / Performance
The ilia lip oil comes with the usual fuzzy applicator you would get with other lip glosses or oils. The size is good, being able to coat the lips with one swipe. As for how it performs I would say it is great too. The ‘deep hydration’ which ilia talk about can certainly be felt upon first application though I wouldn’t say it is that thirst quenching but surely the moisturising can be felt. I have quite dry lips and would say my lips were able to stay hydrated much of the time.
Upon application ilia do state your lips should feel ‘instantly fuller, smoother as well as softer’ and what did I experience? There was some slight feeling of fullness , I can say that, most likely down to the addition of hyaluronic acid which is known to provide hydration that plumps. It also left my lips feeling quite soft and supple like they mentioned without the tacky feeling, commonly produced by glosses. I like how the ilia lip gloss features meadow foam seed oil, known to support the skins natural barrier which supports it’s ability to lock in moisture, a good choice for overly dry lips!
The tinted lip oil provides I would say with a nice glossy sheen bringing a touch of delicate wash of colour, the deeper shades of course with more rich tint whereas the lighter ones leave a more sheer hue. The texture or should I say consistency is somewhere between an oil and liquid. But I would say the finish has more of an oil property as well as the application since it does go on smoothly without any issues.
Lastage
What can I really say about lastage, I mean this is a lip gloss so strength really isn’t its strongest feature now is it? Any one who have given glosses a go certainly now how often you might need to apply them. Any ways back to the ilia lip oil, so talking about lastage I would say it provided me up to 4-5 hours of shine along with the moisturising properties. That honestly is a great number!
Now if you are eating and drinking then I suppose it wouldn’t be as long lasting, maybe knock an hour or so off depending on how much you are using your lips. Coming back to the moisturising effect, I can say my pout didn’t dry out, instead was kept pretty hydrated.
How about the stickiness? There weren’t no major issues with that either. The wash of colour which the balmy gloss provides however didn’t stay for much long which I am not surprised about as it is quite sheer. So if you require some bit of colour then you definitely would need to reapply a lot sooner!
Overall
Overall I give the ilia lip oil a rating of 8.5/10! I like how it can be effortlessly applied, just gliding along. Its ability to provide moisturisation along with hydration and keep the lips in that ‘soft, smooth and glossy’ state for a while is a great advantage.
The lastage I would consider as good too if you aren’t going to be eating much! It doesn’t feel sticky for most the time either! The gloss tinted lip oil as the name suggest does offer a decent amount of colour however if you prefer more pigment then I would suggest you check out their colour block lipstick.
The formula consists of great ingredients in my opinion such as the hyaluronic acid, meadow foam seed oil as well as the salicornia herbarcea extract for apparently hydration improvement of up to 6000%! The formulas is also free from silicone, free from nanoparticle as well as paraben free!
This is a ideal product for individuals on the look out for something to quench their lips thirst plus a little colour and to coat it with a beautiful glossy sheen!
That’s it for now peeps!
