Description

Elf matte putty primer

Apparently this is elf best-selling primer. As it is in a matte finish, this putty features an oil free formula with a velvety touch.

It’s infused with ‘kaolin and white charcoal’ which is known to brighten skin, reduce inflammation and help absorb excess oil leaving a shine free finish.

The velvety texture should glide ‘effortlessly’ over the skin, covering imperfections for a ‘poreless’ effect.

It’s said to be the ‘ultimate grip’ on makeup! So let’s see how it truly performs!

Application

Elf recommend applying a moisturizer beforehand and then proceed with the primer. Before going in with the foundation, let the primer work it’s magic for a few seconds. Now you may begin your art!

I followed elf’s step to apply my primer which isn’t any different to how I’d usually do it but anyways the application overall was easy.

To get the primer out, I used a cotton bud and wiped some onto my hand. I didn’t use a lot, just under a penny size was the amount I applied.

To blend I gently blotted and worked in using my small finger. Sometimes this encourages oil to come out however thankfully this time around it didn’t.

The product does dry pretty quick so I don’t have to wait much long until I can apply the foundation. The primer creates an even and smooth base. It does fill pores well and smoothens the skin out.

Formula

The consistency of the formula is great, it isn’t too thick and definitely not runny. Once on the skin it doesn’t feel tight however it does have a slight tackiness to it.

I believe the tackiness in a way does help grip the makeup but I wouldn’t be too sure.

The formula itself is quite gentle on my skin, it doesn’t cause any irritation which is great as I have sensitive skin which usually doesn’t get along with quite a few products.

Lastage

At the beginning the primer was doing well, there were no weakness and my foundation was intact with no blotches.

However around the 4/5th hour mark, my foundation started to melt. My forehead also got slightly oily forcing me to run to the bathroom to blot and reapply.

The weather was quite warm that day so maybe that could be a factor which caused my makeup to give up easily.

Oh well I’ll give it a try when the seasons change into a cooler temperature and see how it performs then.

Currently the one thing it is good at keeping strong is eyeshadow. I use it as an eyeshadow base and it does well so I’ll stick to applying it on my lids for now. I have a combination skin, with an oily t zone and eyelids but dry cheeks.

I’m not too sure why the primer does so well on my lids which are usually quite oily but not on my forehead, maybe it’s the large surface area, I don’t know. Well at least I can use it somewhere.

Overall I rate this primer an 8/10! It’s affordable, has a decent grip ability, fills pores well, gets along with my sensitive skin and doesn’t have any strong scent.

I think I shall keep this one for short days out due to the lastage or for my eyeshadow base. If you’d like to check out the elf matte putty primer then tap here!
