Elf lip liner and blending brush – honest review!

The elf lip liner and blending brush was suggested to me by my friend after she had spotted it online when on a hunt for a new lip product.

It was super cheap and worked well for her so she thought I might as well give it a go. Plus when I heard it has a brush on one end, of course I had to run for it then.

Anyways lets get into the review!

Quick Overview

Pros

  • Unique and useful design
  • Precise application
  • Affordable

Cons

  • Not as long lasting
  • Pigmentation is light
  • Limited shade selection

Description

Elf lip liner and blending brush

This lip liner and blending brush lets you ‘create defined and enhanced lips’ with the pencil whereas the brush enables you to ‘blend to perfection’.

It’s supposedly ment to glide smoothly with accuracy and precision, which is what we all need to get the most natural looking pout. Though this is a pencil, it comes in a retractable form so you don’t need to be carrying a sharpener around.

The brush features ‘soft taklon bristles’ to allow blending colour ‘evenly and naturally’ for a beautiful lip look.

So does it achieve this? Well carry on reading as I go through my favourite aspects and anything I wasn’t a fan of.

Application

Elf do state this lip liner should be smooth to glide however I wouldn’t say this is quite true. It wasn’t hard to use but also not as easy to run along as I’d expected.

And if you have overly dry lips like me then moisturizing well beforehand definitely will help with application otherwise be prepared for an uneven ride. Moisturizing creates a soft base to work on.

After you have applied the colour, you can then use the brush on the other side to blend, creating a more natural look. I found the bristles on the brush a bit hard but I’m not too concerned about that as long as it does the blending well.

By the way the brush did an okay job, it wasn’t excellent but still good for a super affordable and drugstore product. I also use the brush to blend for other lip products so I definitely find it useful!

The formula for this lip liner is not creamy but more towards the waxy side I would say.

Though I do like creamy formulas due to their softness, I actually prefer waxy ones in the long run as they are usually much more longer lasting. The creamy formulas feel like they melt away.

The tip of the liner is somewhat pointy which does allow precise application however I would like to see how it does once the tip becomes used and worn down.

Of course, it wouldn’t be as sharp as it currently is but I would like to think it doesn’t give messy results. Oh well we’ll wait and see.

I would also like to see how well the bristles stay intact as currently there are a few fallout every now and again, more so when I’m giving it a wash.

Lastage

The colour itself is stated as brown however it has a lighter tone with. I’m not sure how many other shades there are as on their website they have only displayed a caramel colour.

Okay now for the lastage, the colour remained strong for roughly 4 hours until it became visible-no-more! The shade itself is quite subtle with not a high pigmentation so I wasn’t expecting it to cling on for long.

You definitely have to apply another lip product for a richer looking pout. I usually only apply lip liners instead of lipstick when I’m going for the casual everyday look but for days out, opt for lipstick on top to achieve a long-lasting as well as smooth finish.

Overall

Overall I rate this lip liner a 7/10! It does have a good formula, it’s cool that no sharpening is needed, is double-sided and affordable too however I feel the pigmentation is really light and it doesn’t last as long.

I think I’ll keep this liner for now and continue using it for short days out. I think I’ll also like to keep the brush for future usage too instead of using my small finger or rubbing my lips together to get that even look.

Thank you very much for this valuable detailed review about Elf lip liner and blending brush. I really don’t know much about these things. But I have seen my sister using things like this. I think my lip liner is much better than hers. The same thing lasts more than four hours. Keep posting like this. I will definitely send this to her.

This elf lip pencil seems to me like something every woman should have. Especially because it suits every skin type and because of its structure, which is very important for me. I don’t like lipsticks that have too much shine in them but rather be matte. That’s why I like this pen.

Hiya Bojana thanks for the comment!

If you don’t mind the lastage too much and aren’t a fan of shimmer than I guess the elf’s lip liner would be ideal! Plus it’s super affordable!
